The Parasound 2250 is one quality amp. I've had the Parasound 2250 v2 hooked up for a few days now. At a mere $1,800, the Parasounds are a steal. The Parasounds also bested the Plinius in terms of overall clarity and image separation. The extra low-end grunt had me readjusting the gain on my Gallo Reference SA subwoofer amplifier that drives the second voice coils of the Reference 3.1s. Standing a little over two deck of cards high and half a standard component’s width, the Z components were certainly attractive and not too shabby either when called to duty. But when I hooked it up to my PSB Image T-45's - I got exactly what you described: "meh and recessed" sound. And unlike my reference Emotiva RSP-1 and RPA-1, it can be found in many brick and mortar audio retailers, so you can listen before you buy. Parasound Halo, ZoneMaster, Z Custom, and NewClassic are four distinct product families. I could have done without the adjustable gain on the Model 2250 (just another pot for the signal to go though), and the inclusion of tone controls and a subwoofer crossover on the Model 2100, but overall the execution of these two products was excellent. If it were me, I would stick with the XPA-2 unless you are planning on going all Parasound and finding a good priced 3 or 5 channel amp. I had a Parasound 2250 v1 and it was a nice solid amp but not in the same league as the A23 which is a Class A/AB Halo amp designed by John Curl. I could sell the parasound and buy a Adcom 555 and have money left over to recap my 12b. The Parasound product is very hard to beat for the money. So is the Emotiva XPA-2 but just less expensive. Frequency is 0.002% at 20 Hz and rises to 0.02% at 20 kHz. Crosstalk is below the noise floor of the sound card at -85 dB below 1 kHz, and rises to around -60 dB at 20 kHz. While not ridiculously heavy, the Parasound amp and preamp need to be shipped in sleeved heavy duty boxes with built-in plastic lifting handles. Amplifier crosstalk was not measurable with my measurement setup. A mini-jack input labeled “MP3” is available on the front panel for iPod connectivity, in addition to a mini headphone jack. None of these sounded nearly as good as the SR. TEAC connects to the A21+ using a set of AudioQuest Earth XLR cables. The amplifier’s circuitry is contained on a single large PCB, independent from the power supply. The amp is housed in a matching crackle black painted chassis with a machined aluminum front panel. However, they do pose problems for dedicated home-based high-end platforms. After unpacking, one can see why they are heavy, as both units are housed in heavy gauge pressed steel chassis with a crackle black paintjob. They replaced a Parasound NC 2250 and 5250 in my system. If you have $2K to spend on a preamp and amp, you can’t go wrong with the Model 2100 and 2250, and you’ll have to spend quite a lot more to do significantly better. Gold-plated RCA input jacks ensure quality sound playback. If you have power hungry speakers, this $1200 amp could be just what you need. The rear panel offers a slew of RCA single ended inputs, but no balanced inputs or outputs. Both phono stages were excellent at getting out of the way of the music, and were obviously superior to the Lehmann Black Cube phono stage I used to own. Use as a backup amp but probably Would be happier with the 2250 if you need more power or higher damping factor. The Emotivas were champions in the tonal separation of instruments, but offered slightly flat, two-dimensional representations. There is something "fishy" or "rotten" with this model. Whether for music or movies, I can't recommend this amp enough. Frequency response is flat as a pancake from 20 Hz to 50 kHz, and rolls off by less than a dB to the Nyquist frequency of the sound card ADC at 96 kHz. I run a New Classic 2250 with Wharfedale Diamond 10.7's - and it's a killer combination, nothing more to ask for. Helpful. I've not head the Parasound 2250 v2 but I used to own a Parasound HCA-855a and currently own a Parasound Halo A52 (before the Halo, I was using an XPA-3 Gen 2). When used with single ended interconnects, the Emotivas lose some of their clarity. A vacuum fluorescent display shows the selected source and tone settings. The dynamic range of the setup with the voltage divider was insufficient to measure the crosstalk above the noise floor of the measurement setup. The short answer is that I would be an extremely happy audiophile with either of these preamp/amp pairs. With these requirements in mind, I tested the Parasound 5250 5-channel power amp in my system to find out how it handles on the home-theater highway. Parasound 5250 v.2 NewClassic THX Ultra2 Amp. Im not super thrilled with the sound from the Parasound. He became interested in HiFi during high school the first time he listened to a real high-end system (B&W 801s with Mark Levinson electronics). 20 yr old Parasound amps in working condition are very common. Parasound's NewClassic Model 2125 power amplifier just received an update. When combined with the big 250WPC Model 2250, the combo can drive almost any speaker and deliver first class performance. For custom installation, RS-232 control, as well as 12V trigger inputs and outputs are provided. It doesn't sound as awesome as a good tube amp but it's full of detail without a bit of that … Two sets of speakers can be connected to the amp, and selected via an A/B selector on the front panel. But I do like the XPA-5 enough that it's still running my center, surrounds, and rears. The Parasound I own is really smooth. I found that the phono stage in the Model 2100 was very similar in performance to the excellent phono stage in the Emotiva RSP-1. I assumed that the 250 watts through my bass speakers would be a good match with the Denon pumping 110 watts through the upper end speakers. Both the amp and preamp sport a machined aluminum face, with very clean and unobtrusive cosmetics. As one would hope with high quality electronics, a cursing UPS driver delivered the Parasound pair. As with the components they replaced, the Parasound duo offered excellent tonal and spatial separation of instruments. Parasound Halo A23 $995 Parasound’s A23 isn’t the last word in low-end authority, and it’s a bit cool in the midrange, but what it lacks in oomph it makes up for in finesse and pitch definition.
